My perspective on early childhood education is that all children are like little scientists—active learners who are constantly discovering, questioning, and making sense of their world. Every child learns differently, asks questions in their own way, and has the right to explore and discover at their own pace. I value each child as a unique individual, and I believe this should be reflected in learning environments that support their emotional, social, and physical development, allowing them to build a strong sense of identity.
I strongly value inquiry-based learning, where children’s natural curiosity drives their learning. I believe children learn best when they are encouraged to ask questions, investigate, and explore topics that are meaningful to them. Through this approach, children develop critical thinking skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Child agency is central to my practice. I believe children should have a voice in their learning and be active participants in decision-making. By listening to children and valuing their ideas, I support them to influence the curriculum, follow their interests, and take ownership of their learning. I see educators as co-learners who work alongside children—observing, listening, and responding intentionally to extend learning and support each child’s individual strengths, goals, and interests.

Creating a safe and supportive environment is fundamental to my role as an educator. I am committed to prioritizing child safety by ensuring children’s physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing at all times. I build trusting relationships, maintain active supervision, and foster a culture where children feel secure, respected, and confident to express themselves. I uphold children’s rights and ensure they feel heard, protected, and valued within the learning environment.

My practice is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG). I embrace play-based learning, intentional teaching, and reflective practice, using ongoing observation and assessment to plan meaningful experiences. I aim to support children in becoming confident, involved learners by building on their interests and supporting their learning progression, including a successful transition to school.
It is important to me to create an environment that reflects each child’s identity, interests, and abilities. I provide access to a variety of open-ended materials and hands-on experiences that encourage exploration, creativity, and the development of new interests. I strive to build a strong sense of community where children feel connected, supported, and that they truly belong.

I find great joy in seeing children make discoveries and progress in their learning. Supporting their curiosity, independence, and confidence inspires me to continually reflect on and improve my practice as an educator- Ebony Schneider
